You've probably used a sugar scrub before. But did you know that the size of the sugar crystal determines everything about how it works — and where it should (and shouldn't) be used?
At Pure Glow and Flow, we formulate our body and lip scrubs differently on purpose. Unlike many mass-market scrubs that pad their formulas with fillers and synthetic binders, every Pure Glow and Flow product is formulated with intention — only the ingredients that actually do something for your skin make the cut.
Here's why that matters for your skin.
Why Exfoliation Matters
Your skin naturally sheds dead cells every 28–40 days, but that process slows down with age, dry weather, and daily stress. When dead skin builds up, it can leave your complexion looking dull, your lips feeling rough, and your body lotion sitting on top of skin instead of absorbing into it.
Exfoliation clears the way — but the right tool for the job depends entirely on where you're exfoliating.
Coarse Sugar: Built for the Body
Rougher skin areas — elbows, knees, heels, legs — need a more assertive exfoliant to actually make a difference. That's where larger sugar crystals come in. They provide the friction needed to buff away thick, built-up dead skin without scratching or damaging healthy skin underneath.
Our Coconut Vanilla Sugar Body Scrub ($20) uses coarser sugar crystals paired with a triple butter blend of shea, cocoa, and mango butter — no fillers, no synthetic binders, just ingredients that work. The butters melt into skin on contact, leaving it soft, smooth, and nourished the moment you rinse off. No post-shower lotion required.
The warm coconut vanilla scent doesn't hurt either.
Best for: legs, elbows, knees, heels, and anywhere skin feels rough or dry.
Fine Sugar: Formulated for Lips
Lip skin is a completely different story. It's thinner, more delicate, and has no oil glands of its own — which is why lips dry out and chap so easily. Using a coarse body scrub on your lips would be too harsh and could cause micro-tears in that sensitive skin.
Fine sugar crystals dissolve more quickly and exfoliate gently, making them ideal for the lip area.
Our French Vanilla Lip Scrub ($12) takes it further with a formula built around ingredients that actively care for lips while they exfoliate:
- Agave Nectar — a natural humectant that draws moisture into the skin
- Shea Butter — deeply conditioning and soothing
- Carrot Vitamin E — an antioxidant that protects and helps repair the skin barrier
Vitamin C
- — brightens and supports healthy, even-toned lips
The result? Lips that aren't just smooth — they're genuinely nourished, protected, and prepped for whatever comes next (lip balm, lip mask, or a bold color). And yes, it's completely lick-off safe — our kids are proof.
Best for: dry, chapped, or flaky lips — use 2–3 times per week for best results.

How to Use Both
For best results, incorporate both into your weekly routine:
- Use the Coconut Vanilla Sugar Body Scrub 2–3x per week in the shower on damp skin. Massage in circular motions, rinse, and pat dry.
- Use the French Vanilla Lip Scrub 2–3x per week on bare lips. Gently massage, then wipe away or lick off. Follow with our French Vanilla Lip Mask for maximum hydration.
A Note on What's Not in Our Scrubs
No fillers. No synthetic binders. No ingredients added just to bulk up the formula or cut costs. What you see on the label is what's doing the work — and that's exactly how we think skincare should be made.
